About Glen Lake (Big)

Glen Lake is one of the premiere all sports lakes in Northwest Michigan.  Nestled on the western edge of Leelanau County, Glen Lake consists of two lakes connected by a narrow channel.  The lake to the east is referred to as Big Glen and the smaller lake to the west is known as Little Glen. Big Glen covers an amazing 4,871 acres and has a max depth of 130 feet.  Little Glen Lake encompasses 1,415 acres with a max depth of 13 feet.  Little Glen has over time been filled in by the sand from Sleeping Bear Dunes.  The sandy soil has exceptional filtering properties and thus, Glen Lake has extraordinarily clean, clear water.

Glen Lake sits just outside of Glen Arbor, a quaint and beautiful community on the shores of Lake Michigan.  There are many opportunities for shopping, dining, and outdoor activities in Glen Arbor.  The Homestead Resort is also a favorite destination for vacationers all year long.

Fishing on Glen Lake is a treat for all.  Expect to pull in yellow perch, smallmouth bass, northern pike, brown trout, and lake trout. Many of the home owners do not stop fishing when the snow flies!  Ice shanties can be seen dotting the frozen lake throughout the winter months.  Be sure to sign up for the Glen Arbor Winterfest perch fishing contest.  After reeling in the big one, drive over to Boone Docks for the chili cookoff.

Property owners on Glen Lake have incredible views of the surrounding rolling wooded hills and the magnificent Sleeping Bear Dunes.  Come and see for yourself this exceptional inland lake that is just a few hours drive from Grand Rapids, Chicago, or Detroit.
