Ask anyone who has spent more than a few hours on Higgins Lake or National Geographic Magazine and they'll tell you the same thing. Higgins is among the most beautiful lakes in the world. At 9,900 acres in size with over 21 miles of shoreline, the lake offers tremendous boating opportunities.
The crystal clear water and hard sand beach make the lake a favorite for scuba divers and swimmers. The most impressive feature of the lake to most visitors is the spectacular color variation that occurs at the various depths of the lake. From a smooth tan in the shallows, then a vibrant aquamarine in the middle depths to a cobalt blue over the deepest parts of the lake which reach as deep as 140 feet.
The lake has a very diverse fishery with everything from Perch and Rock Bass to trophy Lake Trout, Smallmouth Bass, and even enormous Pike if you know where to look. Because of its location between I-75 and US 127, the lake is very easy to reach from large metropolitan areas to the south. The nearby communities of Roscommon and Grayling provide access to amenties such as shopping, dining, and anything else a visitor or resident may need.
Huron Pines RC and D in Grayling is working with property owners on Higgins Lake to ensure it remains the treasure it is today. Here's a terrific guide they've put together to educate property owners on how they can help. Higgins Lake Home Owners Guide
